Phil Sterling (2008): A neotropical species that may have become naturalised in Britain after about 1840. It is widely distributed in the British Isles but not often recorded. The adult is occasionally seen in unheated buildings or outdoors flying at dusk. The larva, which only makes a case in which to change its skin and to pupate, feeds on a variety of animal materials including fibres, feather and animal remains.
