Caloptilia rufipennella

(Hübner, 1796)284 / 15.006

Phil Sterling (2008): First reported in Britain in 1970, this species is probably a recent colonist. It spread rapidly in subsequent decades and is now widespread. The adult is found at light. The larva mines the leaf at first before making a series of three conical rolls at the edge of the leaf of sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus). It is also reported to feed on field maple (Acer campestre), though not in Dorset. The paucity of records in this county certainly reflects under-recording.
