Bucculatrix thoracella

(Thunberg, 1794)273 / 14.009

Phil Sterling (2008): A local species, formerly restricted to ancient woodland containing small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata). However, in recent decades, the moth has become widespread in England, and often abundant in urban areas, where the larvae feed on common lime (T. x vulgaris). The adult may be found at rest on tree-trunks and comes to light occasionally. The larva mines the leaves at first before feeding externally.
