Phil Sterling (2008): A widespread species in England, but rarer further west and north. It inhabits woodlands, scrub and hedgerows where the larva feeds on elms (Ulmus spp.), usually English elm, (U. procera). The adult may be seen flying around the foodplant in evening sunshine. The larva mines the leaves at first before feeding externally and the unribbed pupal cocoon is usually attached to the trunk of the tree. This species has rarely been seen in any numbers in Dorset in recent years.
