Phil Sterling (2008): A rather local species in England found in woodlands and scrub, but more widely reported recently owing to a better understanding of its life history (Heckford, 1997). The adult is rarely seen but does fly at dusk. The larva is known to feed on the cushion fungus Hypoxylon multiforme growing on dead branches or trunks of birch, Betula spp., usually those lying on the ground.
