Merrifieldia leucodactyla

([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)1510 / 45.033

Peter Davey / Phil Sterling, 2020: A rare species in the UK, the larva feeding on wild thyme Thymus sp. In Dorset, the species was always a rarity historically, being restricted to xerothermic short-sward unimproved grassland on chalk soil, a habitat which has largely disappeared under the plough since the Second World War. There are just two confirmed records post-1967: one from Bottlebush Down in 2003, and a second from Melbury Down in 2005.
