Nematopogon schwarziellus

(Zeller, 1839)141 / 7.012

Phil Sterling (2008): A widespread species throughout the British Isles, inhabiting woodlands and more open habitats. Whilst ova are laid on a variety of herbaceous plants, the larva drops to the ground and feeds on leaf litter from a portable case until autumn when full fed. Records under N. pilella (142, a western and northern moorland species) in WPC manuscript are considered to refer to this species.
