In Dorset the moth is local and at low density; it is most often encountered on calcareous clay and chalky soils in the north-eastern quadrant of the county where blackthorn (Prunus spp.) and hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) are dominant plants in scrub or unmaintained hedgerow.
