Davey, P., 2009: A local species in England and Wales, and rare in Scotland, the polyphagous larva feeding on various herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. In Dorset the moth is local and at low density; it is most often encountered on calcareous clay and chalky soils in the north-eastern quadrant of the county where blackthorn (Prunus spp.) and hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) are dominant plants in scrub or unmaintained hedgerow.
