Davey, P., 2009: A widespread species in Britain, the larva feeding on a wide range of tree and shrub species. In Dorset, the moth has been recorded from most sites across the county. "Larvae are frequently quite abundant, but the mortality rate is high; the choice of foodplant is very frequently ivy" (W Parkinson Curtis ms). Occasional mid-summer individuals are likely to be second brood individuals. The national norm is a single brood in May and June.
